Milan Design Week 2016 - Via Cesare Correnti 14 - Milan

In the occasion of the exhibition Ladies and Gentleman, SERVOMUTO and Davide Loddo from Studio.TO.DO have designed a display in which they present 4 new SERVOMUTO designs together with a careful selection of unique pieces from the Fifties selected by .TO.DO, setting the theme of “Ladies and Gentlemen” in a Lombardy villa of the early 1950s.
The vintage furniture and the new lighting are held together by the common thread of exploration of textiles, graphics and forms taken from the Bauhaus and transferred to an exotic climate.
SERVOMUTO and Studio.TO.DO are presenting jointly a preview of the design of “anarchic coverings” made up of special pieces selected by TO.DO and covered by SERVOMUTO with graphics made with poplin origami.

Milan Design Week 2015 - Residenza Litta

SERVOMUTO present four new projects, each one with its own specific design theme:

  • Chandelier: The reinterpretation and realisation of a large chandelier, that will be completed on the SERVOMUTO stand during the days of the event.
  • Small Meringues: a new “pret a porter” lamp in the typical SERVOMUTO style of form and colour.
  • Guinea: a limited edition floor lamp with a Portoro marble base block. The marble blocks are carefully selected from the quarry, to ensure that each lamp is unique.
  • Patio separè, prototype of a screen: for the first time SERVOMUTO present an object other than a lamp. This partition/screen is its first non artisanal product.

From its standard products to more complex elements, from classic forms to a retro tropical theme, from essential raw metalwork to the intricate playful layering of colours, styles and images drawn from different centuries, SERVOMUTO recounts its story of artisanal craftwork, of one-off creations and experiments in new aesthetics through the reinterpretation of unusual, old or forgotten objects.

For the two projects; CHANDELIER and PATIO SEPARE’, SERVOMUTO have the valuable support of the company Dedar who supply fabrics and trimmings.

SERVOMUTO explores the field of fake materials, of fake chiaroscuro, of fake perspectives. The lampshades with purely fake marble granite, cork and wood, printed on PVC or wall paper, matched with cottons of similar tonalities, create a fake game of shadows, facets, alter the different plans of readings simple geometric shapes. Triangles and pentagons become pieces of a big tangram, kept together by gros-grain finishings that remind of the tile joints. Rock shaped hanging lamps covered in the typical Italian 50s public housing floor.
A kaleidoscope geometric pattern reinterprets the oriental lamps.

Pitti Immagine Uomo 2013 – This Is Not Bauhaus - Florence

This is not Bauhaus is the new SERVOMUTO project that joins LEITMOTIV who provided the fabric for the creation of the lampshades. This project is a true experiment, a union of styles and different worlds: Bauhaus’ pure geometrics and baroque’s excess of decoration find an unusual match, two sides of the SERVOMUTO project, always concerned in relating antique and modern, geometric shapes and rich details.
This is not Bauhaus is a project that includes twelve unique and unrepeatable pieces assembled with elements taken from the historical SERVOMUTO archive.

Heavy Cotton at Palazzo Brioni for Wallpaper handmade 2011 – Milan

The project Heavy Cotton is born from a collaboration between Servomuto and DWA, Frederik De Wachter and Alberto Artesani. The design of the lamp is a new version of an already existing form. DWA decided to reinterpret that form by covering the skeleton of the shade with a kind of dress in cotton, which can be changed and customized as a bespoke dress according to the needs of the buyer. Heavy Cotton was presented in three sizes using a 100% cotton jersey, with three types of printed marble textures. The final effect is that of a block of marble suspended in mid air.
